Frequently asked questions
Shipping containers - Office containers
For placing a shipping container, it is best to choose a stable, level surface such as concrete slabs, paving stones, or stabilized sand. A proper base prevents subsidence and ensures that the container doors continue to function correctly. Is a completely level surface not possible? Then place a tile or concrete block under each of the four corners to level the container.

The 20ft shipping container is the most popular size for storage and transport in Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and France.
A shipping container is a robust steel unit, originally built for international sea transport and storage. Windproof, watertight and extremely durable. An office container is a fully equipped workspace based on that same container structure, standard equipped with:
• Insulation
• Windows and doors
• Full electrical installation
• Heating
• Shutters
• Table and chairs
Office containers are also referred to as site cabins, office units or modular workspaces.
Yes. Shipping containers can be fully customized with additional doors, windows, ventilation and insulation. This allows you to easily transform a simple storage container into a functional office or workspace. Custom container solutions are one of HC-Containers’ specialties.
Standard shipping containers are not insulated. Office containers always are. Would you like to insulate a shipping container, for example to prevent condensation or to use it as a workspace? This is possible upon request.
A ready-to-use office container from HC-Containers is standard equipped with:
• Insulation
• Lighting
• Full electrical installation
• Heating
• Windows and an exterior door
Almost anything is possible as an option: air conditioning, alarm system, additional windows, shutters, branding such as stickers and more. Tell us what you need and we will work it out.
A one way container has made exactly one sea journey: from Asia to Europe. Instead of being shipped back empty, it is sold on the European market. This makes it a relatively young container (1–3 years old) in excellent condition and comparable in quality to new, but at a more competitive price than a brand-new container. Advantages of a one way container:
• Nearly new with minimal wear
• Longer lifespan than a standard second-hand container
• Excellent price-quality ratio for those looking to buy a shipping container
Our trucks are equipped with a crane that allows us to place a shipping container precisely, usually up to approximately ±12 meters from the truck. The exact placement possibilities depend on the crane’s reach, site accessibility and ground conditions. Not sure if your location is accessible? Feel free to contact us, we will review it together.
The choice between buying or renting a shipping container depends on your situation:
• Buying: ideal for long-term use, customization or as a permanent storage solution on your site
• Renting: the most flexible option for temporary projects, construction sites or seasonal storage
Not sure what fits your needs best? We are happy to help you decide.
The minimum rental period for a container is 30 days. There is no maximum term, so you can rent the container for as long as you need it. Ideal for both short-term projects and long-term storage or site installations.
Depending on our stock and your location, delivery of a shipping container in Belgium is often possible within a few working days. Contact us for a specific delivery time at your address.
Whether you need a permit depends on the municipality, the duration of placement and whether the container is placed on private or public property. In many cases, a container on private land for short-term use does not require a permit, but rules vary per municipality. We recommend checking this in advance with your local authority. Have questions? We are happy to assist.
Yes, absolutely. Our second-hand shipping containers are carefully selected. We personally select them at the port to guarantee their quality. Every second-hand container we offer is:
• Wind- and watertight
• Checked for structure and condition
• Perfectly suitable as a storage container or as a base for customization
We only offer containers that meet our high-quality standards.

Shipping containers are naturally very secure thanks to their strong steel construction and lockable doors. Want additional security? Extra locks or advanced security systems are always possible.
Office containers and office units are available in different sizes:
• 10ft unit (± 3 m × 2.4 m): ideal as a compact site cabin or small workspace
• 20ft unit (± 6 m × 2.4 m): the most commonly chosen office container
• 20ft XL (± 6 m × 3 m): extra width for more comfort
Office containers can also be combined or stacked to create larger modular spaces, and fully customized with additional windows, doors or partitions. They are perfect as temporary offices, site cabins, meeting rooms or sanitary units.
Yes, shipping containers can be stacked. They are originally designed for this purpose, and in shipping they are stacked multiple levels high. On land, this offers interesting possibilities for vertical storage or modular constructions.
Yes, almost all our containers are available for both sale and rental in Belgium and across Europe. The only exception is waste containers, which are only available for purchase. Not sure what suits your needs? We are happy to advise.
A shipping container can last more than 50 years. This is due to the material: containers are made of Corten steel, a special alloy that forms a protective rust layer when exposed to moisture and air. This layer prevents further corrosion and makes the material highly weather-resistant. Combined with their ability to withstand harsh sea conditions, a shipping container is a long-term investment.

The 20ft shipping container is by far the most popular size in Belgium. It offers the ideal balance between storage capacity and ease of placement: large enough for materials, tools or belongings, yet compact enough for most sites and driveways. For larger storage volumes, the 40ft container is the logical next step. Not sure which size you need? We are happy to help.
Concrete slabs
Concrete slabs can be placed on river sand, soil (with preparation) or an existing hardened surface. Proper ground preparation is essential for a stable and long-lasting result, especially when used by heavy machinery.
Yes, concrete slabs are ideal for trucks, machinery and heavy site traffic. They prevent vehicles from sinking into mud or soft ground and make your site immediately accessible, even in wet conditions.
Concrete slabs are only available for purchase at HC-Containers.
Concrete slabs are generally quickly available from stock and can be delivered and installed within a short timeframe, so your site is ready for use immediately.
Yes, concrete slabs are perfect for temporary applications such as construction sites, events or temporary storage areas. After use, they can easily be removed and reused elsewhere.
Yes. Concrete slabs prevent rutting, reduce damage caused by heavy traffic and lower long-term maintenance costs. A smart investment for any construction site or industrial area.
